Some thoughts on Pottermore...

Ok.  So, I've had this on my mind for awhile.  I know I kind of vented on Tumblr, but I have yet to vent on here. And I'm going to, as this is my blog.  And I can do/say what I want.  This is my opinion, you don't have to agree with it.  But it's my opinion.

I got my Welcome e-mail on the morning of August 25th.  I got it, and started going through the story.  I loved it.  It was just...amazing.  The artwork, finding things.  It was awesome.  It really brought the story to life, and it was like I was living my own story, rather than Harry's.  And it was just fun!  I got my wand (Cypruss, Pheonix core, 12 1/4 inches, slightly yeilding) and I shopped in Diagon Alley.  It was great!  And I got sorted!  What I was most looking forward to!  I went in, just not caring which house I got.  And I got Hufflepuff!  I was so excited!  Because, deep down, I know I am one.  I'm loyal, I'd do anything for my friends, I work really hard to achieve my goals, I don't give up.  I'm a proud, proud Hufflepuff.  I BLEED black and yellow.  I have so much house pride, it's ridiculous.  But I got into my house, into my common room, and I saw that people weren't so thrilled about it.  And that people weren't doing anything for the house, because they were so disappointed to be a Hufflepuff.  And I sat there and wondered why on earth you would be disappointed to be a Hufflepuff.  I mean, we're loyal, hard working, caring, dependable, true.  I don't get how those are bad qualities to have.  If anything, I would think that people would really WANT to be in Hufflepuff.  But I look at the Common Room comment board, and on Tumblr and I see people all. "I'm not a Hufflepuff!  I'm a Ravenclaw!" "I don't want to be in Hufflepuff!  It sucks!", etc, etc, etc.  And really, what I see most is that people think they're Ravenclaws.  I don't get that.  Why does everyone think they're Ravenclaws?  I mean, sure, you may be super smart, but that doesn't automatically make you a Ravenclaw.  Nor does being brave automatically make you a Gryffindor.  And being cunning automatically make you a Slytherin.  And being loyal doesn't automatically make me a Hufflepuff.  But I don't get it.  I'm just confused.  I know there wasn't a whole lot about the Hufflepuffs in the books.  But look at Cedric!  He was THE Hogwarts champion!  Sure Voldemort killed him off, and god forbid, Robert Pattinson played him in the GoF movie.  But Cedirc wasn't a bad guy!  And neither was Tonks!  TONKS!  Tonks was such a badass!  She turned out to be an Auror.  And JKR HERSELF!  And "all the rest" doesn't mean we're the "reject" house.  Or the leftovers. Just because Hufflepuffs aren't boastful about their accomplishments, doesn't mean they're weak.  It doesn't mean we aren't smart.  And Pottermore isn't the be all end all sorting quiz.  Yes, JKR created it herself, but it doesn't mean it's 100% accurate.  Or the most correct.  It's just that, another sorting quiz.  If you answered all the questions honestly, and truthfully, then you're where you belong.  It may not be what you wanted, but Pottermore isn't about the points, and it's not being in the house you wanted.  It's about the experience.  Brewing and dueling and earning points are PART of the experience, but not ALL of the experience.  We all wanted more Harry Potter.  And JKR was kind enough to give us more Harry Potter.  Give us more information.  Give us a chance to experience getting a wand and getting sorted and brewing potions.  It's supposed to be fun.  And there are so many people out there, giving up because they aren't happy with where they were sorted.  And there are some people out there, purposefully making house lose points.  And I just don't get that.  If JKR saw that, then she'd be so disappointed.  It's supposed to be fun, and about the experience.  And it just saddens me that people aren't seeing it that way.  In the end, like Who's Line, the points don't matter.  There's not a real cup to be given out.  It's just for fun.  And yeah, the sorting is part of the fun.  But if you know deep down who you are, then getting sorted into a house other than your favorite one, shouldn't matter.  You should just answer the questions honestly, earn your house points, and embrace that side of your personality.  Because we've all got a little bit of each house in us.  Just embrace it.  Just because you feel like you're a Slytherin deep down, and get sorted into Ravenclaw, doesn't mean you can't still be a Slytherin deep down.  Just work hard for the house you got sorted into, embrace it.  Enjoy it.  Be thankful you're on Pottermore.  Because there were so many people clambering to get in.  And there are so many people out there, just abandoning their accounts because of where they got sorted.  And it really makes me sad.  Come on guys!  Just have fun!  Be thankful that JKR did this for us.  Because she didn't have to.  She could've kept all this information to herself.  So, stop crying about which house you got in, and embrace it and just have fun like we were meant to do!
